Thomas Tuchel is not just making a squad this summer in order to compete for the top spot again. I believe the coach is trying to put together an entire team, specifically, a midfield to look forward to.
Chelsea’s issues are well known We have two of their older midfielders like Jorginho as well as N’Golo Kante who are now in the last season of their contract and have no indication of extension.
There are other players, such as Conor Gallagher, who if there’s no sign of him playing the regular game this year, will most likely be tempted to quit. Other midfielders include Ruben Loftus-Cheek who is currently used as a backup player, and Mason Mount, who is employed as an attacker as well.
If you take a look at it, you have Mateo Kovacic as the only midfielder who has a good chance of staying at Chelsea.
This is why we’re getting reports of Chelsea striving to sign Frenkie De Jong of Barcelona in the belief that Tuchel and Chelsea are working to build the future of their midfield.
I believe we’ll also see a return to Thomas Tuchel’s primary midfielder, Declan Rice, next summer, if not sooner and it appears Tuchel is eyeing Rice as well as De Jong to replace Jorginho and Kante.
If you’ve heard the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law speak on the London is Blue podcast today you’d have seen him mention this.
Law states Law says that Chelsea “have reviewed certain midfielders this summer, but they are not available, so those players may take a backseat until next summer.” The law claims that we’ve looked at things that haven’t been covered in the media. It’s interesting indeed.
This suggests that Chelsea is working in the present and is looking to the future. I’m certain Tuchel is waking up with nightmares about the summer that saw him lose two of his key defensive players, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as free agents. He does not want the same to happen again next summer. Two key midfielders.
